For five weeks, the event occupied a 1974 family residence designed by architect Vilanova Artigas in the Alto da Boa Vista neighborhood. Works by over 70 Brazilian and international artists filled every space of the house, providing viewers with a powerful immersion in the artistic dialogue between architecture, visual arts, and design.
The second edition of ABERTO took place between August 13 and September 17, 2023, occupying a residence designed by Vilanova Artigas in 1974, in the Alto da Boa Vista neighborhood of São Paulo. For five weeks, works by more than 70 Brazilian and international artists filled every space of the house.
The exhibition was curated by Claudia Moreira Salles, Filipe Assis, and Kiki Mazzucchelli. In partnership with ETEL, the exhibition launched furniture pieces designed by Artigas that had previously never been produced. The edition also featured commissioned works by Claudia Moreira Salles and Humberto Campana.
Designed for the Domschke family in 1974 and completed in 1977, the residence is considered one of the architect’s most significant works. The project features a façade perpendicular to the street and floors connected by ramps.
The dining room, visible from different levels of the house, acts as a central element integrating the spaces. Prior to ABERTO2, the residence had never been open to the public.
